Scheduled start date - October 17th, 2011
Many people have heard of Linux, but are not familiar with it. If you have not, Linux is a free(as in price) open-source replacement for the commercial operating system used in Windows based desktops and servers. This course teaches you how get, install, configure, and keep up to date a Linux system that can duplicate over 90% of the functionality of a Windows desktop and replace a Windows web and mail server at zero cost for the software. The only prerequisites are a basic knowledge of Computers and computer hardware. So long as you know what the CPU, hard drive, RAM, and the computer case are, and the meaning of the terms point, click, drag, and drop, there are no other prerequisites. This course can taken on your current Windows or Mac computer, so there is no need to buy new hardware.
This course will mainly be given in a self-paced distance delivery format, with opportunities to attend an on-site course orientation at the beginning and course wrap up at the end, both taking place at the Challenger Learning Center.
Homeschoolers - The tuition for this course will be covered by your allotments. We are also offering half of a high school credit for this course.
This course is still open to registration! For more info on this, and pricing for the course, call Luke Mese at (907) 283-2000
